The StudyDeposit is a database of notes and diagrams by students for students. It was created with the idea that everyone should have the information they need at an arm’s reach. With the help of nearly a year’s worth of notes, several dedicated students, and openly available software, we proudly present the StudyDeposit as your personal library of notes.

How it Began

The StudyDeposit began as a collection of personal notes taken in class using traditional pencil and paper. As the number of notes grew, we gradually transitioned to digital notes organized using Obsidian. As time passed, the notes grew into an interconnected library brimming with data, charts, diagrams, and pictures. However, it wouldn’t stop there.

With the SAT and AP exams nearing closer, notes became a necessary component of studying. We wanted everyone to have a chance to do the best they could, so we decided to publish these notes for anyone to use.

Thankfully, developers developed tools to publish Obsidian notes online. We settled on the software Quartz 4.0, a static-site generator that transforms Obsidian Markdown notes into functional websites.

Quartz 4.0 built our website, but we needed a way to make it accessible online. With the help of Cloudflare, an online cloud deployment network, we could deploy the notes on the website you’re using right now!

Tools we Use

Obsidian

”Obsidian is the private and flexible writing app that adapts to the way you think.” - Obsidian website

We needed to decide what program to use when transitioning from pencil and paper to digital notes. After browsing the internet, we settled on Obsidian. Unlike other tools, Obsidian is an easy-to-use app with many features to make it intuitive and versatile. The features we like the most are:

  • Links. Anything and everything could be linked together to connect ideas easily.
  • Graph. Easily visualize the relationships between individual notes with an interactive graph.
  • Plugins. Customize the app with hundreds of community-made plugins.

When we decided to publish our notes for anyone to use, finding an accessible website builder proved necessary. Quartz 4.0 filled that role perfectly and seamlessly integrated with Obsidian to organize our notes into a website. Like Obsidian, we prized its customizable and fast design, which allows us to create the StudyDeposit.

Quartz 4.0 recommended a variety of tools to help publish our work. Cloudflare caught our eye and soon became one of our prized tools for rapidly deploying the StudyDeposit into an accessible website. We value Cloudflare for its quick deployment and easy-to-understand instructions.
